The Mud Racers Association is an organization made up of racers, track owners, promoters, and other interested parties who share a common interest in the sport of mud racing. Mud racing takes on many forms, Flat track drag, bog racing and the newest addition called Hill and Hole racing.
Mud Drags
Flat track drags are simple; side by side drag racing with the winner being determined by the fastest timed pass. This form of mud racing shares a resemblance to asphalt drag racing which is a very popular motor sport, dating back many decades. Mud drags have several classes that have attracted many people into a realm of racing that is like no other.

Sportsman classes consist of classes that have a very deep level of competition that can be enjoyed on a budget; Street Stock, Hot Street, Super Stock, and Outlaw Super Stock. All of these vehicles are required to be based on a stock vehicle and can be modified to various levels, allowing it to perform better, while maintaining the “stock” nature of the original vehicle.

Pro Classes get deeper in to levels of competition. Most of these vehicles have been highly modified and some have been built completely from scratch. Pro Stock and Outlaw Pro Stock are highly modified race machines that must retain factory appearances and a small portion of the factory frame; as well as single carburetors and Department of Transportation approved tires (DOT’s). However, these are the only limitations imposed. Mountain sized motors and crafty workmanship make these vehicles lightning fast and appealing to the spectators.

Modified and Open Class vehicles are an “anything goes” type of class. Modified vehicles are limited only by the induction system that can be used. The only power adder that can be used with these cars is Nitrous Oxide. With the addition of nitrous oxide into motors that can be in excess of 800 cubic inches, these cars are pushing 1600 horsepower plus. All of these cars are built on specially designed frames, coupled with a seemingly endless amount of modification, that make these cars unique to the driver or builder. No two cars are alike.

Open Classes are the fastest of all. These cars have no limitations. Most of these vehicles are utilizing supercharged engines that regularly exceed 2500 hp. These cars can dance across a mud track in less than 2 seconds. These are the superstars of the sport, definitely a must see.
Mud Bogs
Mud Bogs are the oldest form of mud racing. In days past, a group of guys would meet at the local deep mud hole and see who could make it through. Now they meet at the local track and see who can go thru the deep stuff the fastest. Usually these pits are in excess of 36” deep. Mud bogs have several classes of competition.

Street stock,

Renegade, Super Modified, and Pro Truck are highly specialized “stock appearing” trucks that the owners have modified to degrees the owners feel will make them king of the pit. Tall tires, big motors and locked rears, all play a crucial role in how fast these cars go thru the pits.

Modified and Open Class cars are clearly the fastest of the pit trucks. Anything goes in these trucks and there is little to no limit for using anything that can make power or speed. Superchargers and Nitrous, as well as out of the ordinary power plants like turbine jet engines, have played a crucial role in making these vehicles skip over the top of the sloppiest mud pits around.
The newest addition to mud racing; Hill and Hole, has taken off in a way no one has ever expected. Considered the craziest form of mud racing, this style takes trucks that weigh over 3000 lbs and allows them to skip thru deep pits and jump over hills on the same single lane track. They do this in under a few seconds as well. Talk about a thrill ride!

The classes are divided up in a way that many guys can race on an average budget and still be competitive in their classes. The first two classes are intended for the everyday guy that wants to go out play in the mud; and have a good time doing it. That’s where this sport starts, with the everyday guys. Once you’re hooked then you move up the ladder to the next classes.

Second stop on the progression ladder is class 3 and 4. These classes are the Modified classes, and these guys get it done. Modified suspensions, beefed up frames and drive trains, as well as highly modified engines that propel these stock appearing trucks thru the mud and over jumps, quicker than most people can drive on city streets.

Class 5 is a class designed for the 4 and 6 cylinder compact trucks. This class also keeps the cost of racing down so that it can be enjoyed by many participants.

Class 6 is the unlimited class. Anything goes. Blowers, nitrous, exotic motors, anything goes in this class. In this class you will see some high flying action as they jump over the hills in these pits.

Class 7 is the big tire class. Tall tractor tires are the norm, but that’s not all. Superchargers, nitrous, and turbos can be used to spin these tires in ways no one has ever imagined.
